How does cathodic protection differ from electroplating?
Cathodic protection work is a technique used to protect metallic structures from corrosion. It involves the use of a more noble metal, such as Titanium or magnesium, to act as galvanic anode. This means that the anode will corrode instead of the metal being protected. This process is also known as galvanic corrosion.
Electroplating, on the other hand, is a method used to coat a metal with a thin layers of another metal. Electroplating is achieved by passing an electric current through an electrolyte solution containing metal ions. The metal ions are attracted to the metal being coated. This creates a thin and even layer of metal on its surface.
This is known as electroplating process. It is often used in manufacturing to add a layer of metal for decorative or wear-resistant purposes.
So, what are the main differences between cathodic protection iccp and electroplating?
1. Purpose
Cathodic protection is used to prevent the corrosion of a metal structure. Electroplating, on the other hand, is used to add a layer of metal to a surface. This layer can be used to improve electrical conductivity, as well as decoration or wear resistance.
2.Types
The types of cathodic protection are impressed current cathodic protection and sacrificial anodes cathodic protection.
Electroplating is divided into rack plating, barrel plating, continuous plating and brush plating.
3. Electrolyte
In the cathodic protection process, an electrolyte solution is not necessary. In plating metals, an electrolyte solution containing metal ions is used to complete the process.
4. Current Density
Cathodic protection requires a lower current density than electroplating. The aim of cathodic protection is to prevent corrosion. Electroplating, however, requires a higher current density in order to get the desired metal coating.

6.Application
Cathodic protection is used to control corrosion in steel pipelines, cables, docks, ships, tank bottoms, coolers and other metal structures. It works in soil, seawater, fresh water and chemical media.
Electroplating technology use: automobile manufacturing, electronics industry, construction industry, power industry, gold plated.
Xubo Titanium produces titanium anodes for cathodic protection. These anodes have low loss rate in various cathodic protection environments. They also have high chemical stability and good chemical stability even in low pH and chloride ion containing environments. The product life can reach more than 50 years.
Our titanium anode for electroplating is very stable in the plating solution. It has good corrosion resistance, and the anode surface maintains its activation performance for a long time. This helps to keep the plating deposition stable and the plating layer uniform. And the long service life, without frequent replacement, optimizes the production process.
