9.The performance characteristics and durability of the flange

Titanium is a brand new metal. Titanium's performance is directly related to its content of impurities like carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen. It has the following characteristics:

1. High strength

Titanium alloy has a density of 4.51g/cubic cmimeter. This is less than 60% of steel. Pure titanium has a density that is similar to ordinary steel. Some titanium alloys with high strength exceed the strength of most alloy structural steels. The specific strength (strength/density/tensility) of titanium alloys is higher than other metal structural steels.

2. High heat intensity

Titanium alloys are able to retain their required strength even at moderate temperatures. They can also work well at temperatures between 450 and 500 degrees Celsius for long periods of time.

3. Excellent resistance to corrosion

The titanium alloy can be used in humid environments and seawater medium. Its corrosion resistance is far better than that of stainless steel. It is also resistant to acid corrosion, pitting corrosion and stress corrosion. etc. Excellent resistance to corrosion

4. Excellent low temperature performance

Titanium alloys can maintain their mechanical properties even at extremely low temperatures. Titanium alloys that have excellent low temperature performance and very low interstitial elements (such as TA7) can retain certain plasticity up to -253°C. Titanium alloy is a key low-temperature structural material.

5. High chemical activity

Titanium is a high-activity metal and can react with many chemicals, including O, N. H. CO, CO2, water vapour, ammonia and others. In the atmosphere. If the carbon content in titanium alloy is higher than 0.2%, it will form hard TiC. When temperature is high, TiN will form when it interacts directly with N. When temperature is higher than 600 degrees C, titanium absorbs oxygen and forms a hardened layer of high hardness. When hydrogen content increases, an embrittlement layer will also form. The hardening degree of 20%-30% can make the surface layer hardened to a brittle and hard depth. It is possible to cause adhesion to the friction surface due to titanium's high chemical affinity.

6. Thermal conductivity is small

The thermal conductivity for titanium is l=15.24W/m.K. This is approximately 1/4 of nickel, 1/5 iron and 1/14 aluminum. However, the thermal conductivity for various titanium alloys are about 50% lower than titanium's. The elastic modulus for titanium alloy is approximately 1/2 that of steel. It is therefore not suitable to make thin-walled parts or thin rods.
